Distribution of roles in the Se + Ni pair

In this pair, partners do not compete with each other; each shows leadership in their own sphere.Sensation Extraverted (Se) – the external physical world and active actions, Intuition Introverted (Ni) – the internal psychical world and sense of time.
The Se-type take the lead in everything related to the external physical material world, while the Ni-type leads in the subtle immaterial psychological realm. Just as the Ni-type feels insecure in the physical world, the Se-type feels equally insecure about their inner world. Each covers the partner's weak side. With his/her partner, the Se-type feels psychologically protected, while the Ni-type feels physically protected.
The Ni-type acts as an advisor and psychologist for the Se-partner. Unable to regulate his/her inner state, all the Se-type can do with his/her experiences is suppress them. The Ni-type encourages the partner to explore underlying psychological processes. He/she tunes into the inner world of the Se-partner, reflects it, helps the Se-partner relieve tension, and harmonize his/her inner state. The Se-type depends on the Ni-partner’s sensitivity; with him/her the Se-type feels psychologically safe, can open up and show his/her vulnerable side.
In each specific situation, the Ni-type senses whether the time has come to initiate a process, whether the situation is “ripe,” and suggests to the Se-partner the exact right time to act and dissuades them from premature actions, allowing the Se-partner to use his/her forces more effectively. Cautious and far-sighted, Ni-type can stop the Se-partner from taking unnecessary risks in time, warning them of the dangers and possible consequences. The Se-type is typically unable to assess time resources and therefore believes that they always have enough time. Therefore, they may find themselves in situations where there is no time, or time has run out. The Ni-partner warns them about the passage of time, for which the Se-type is very grateful.
The Ni-type is more interested in his/her inner world and subtle intangible things than in the real physical world. He/she often lacks energy for actions in the physical world. He/she does not have enough motivation even to maintain his/her daily life: cooking, cleaning, caring for children. The Se-partner, who is firmly grounded and comfortable in the physical world, usually takes on basic household issues or earns money to hire someone to take care of the household. The Se-type brings the Ni-partner back down to earth from their reveries and encourages them to take active action in the physical world, and keeps them on their toes. The Ni-type admires the Se-partner's strong will and looks up to him/her as a hero. Being around him/her, the Ni-type tries to improve his/her physical fitness, become more focused and strong-willed, learns to pursue his/her goals more actively.
The Se + Ni pairing is about acting at the right moment, a union of strength and foresight.
The psychological effect of dualization
Thanks to interaction with the Se-partner, the Ni-type learns to accept his/her physical side, improves muscle tone, engages in exercise, becomes more active and mobilized. His/her anxiety decreases, and he/she feels more confident in the outside world. He or she learns to take responsibility rather than rely entirely on others. With the Se-partner, the Ni-type can be himself/herself, feels needed and appreciated. The partner is grateful for the things the Ni-type enjoys doing.
Thanks to interaction with the Ni-partner, the Se-type learns to accept his/his subtle feelings and vulnerability, and feels comfortable with them. He or she becomes more sensitive and attentive to his/her inner world and that of others. His/her imagination develops, he or she begins to feel the passage of time better and learns to think through the consequences of his/her actions, becoming calmer and more restrained. With the Ni-partner, the Se-type can be himself/herself, feels needed and appreciated. The partner is grateful for the things the Se-type enjoys doing.
Effective interpersonal integration provides an opportunity to develop greater inner integration. Over time, both partners develop their inferior functions, which is accompanied by a feeling of fulfillment. Thanks to the partner, each develops qualities of their inferior function, and derives great pleasure from this.
Here is what Jung's close associate Marie von Franz wrote about the disclosure of the inferior function: “In the realm of the inferior function there is a great concentration of life, so that as soon as the superior function is worn out—begins to rattle and lose oil like an old car—if people succeed in turning to their inferior function, they will rediscover a new potential of life. Everything in the realm of the inferior function, becomes exciting, dramatic, full of positive and negative possibilities. There is great charge and the world is, as it were, rediscovered through the inferior function...” (1)
The more often a person receives support for their inferior function, the better he or she understands it and the more demanding he or she becomes about the quality of this function in other people. The more the Ni-type develops his/her inferior Se-function, the more critically he/she evaluates the Se-function in other people. He or she derives great pleasure when others qualitatively manifest their Se-function and immediately senses if this function in other people is weak or distorted.The same applies to the Se-type. The more the Se-type develops his/her inferior Ni-function, the more critically he/she evaluates the Ni-function in other people.
